Somewhere in the middle

“How did you ever lose that girl?” She said.  A face that doesn’t align with a name, though clearly a face that knows her well.

“By not growing up, by being selfish,” a pause and looking at her to see if it wasn’t rhetorical, “Well, how long do you have?” with a slight smile, knowing that it’s not much of an exaggeration.

A light nod and small smile back, “Well what would you do if she gave you another chance?” with an inclined head waiting to see if the answer is sufficient.

A pause as if the answer requires any thought, so the pause is only brief, “I would sweep her off of her feet and spend the rest of my life making sure that her feet never touch the ground again.”

No response, but I can tell from her face that the answer was sufficient. I can see her face nearby, talking and smiling to her coworkers.  That smile lights up and warms up the night.  It feels like everything melts away for a few seconds while she talks.  A twinge of regret that those smiles don’t land on me anymore, that those eyes don’t open to mine in the morning, that those arms aren’t where I am right now.

Tomorrow

“A few more hours to be complete, a few more nights on satin sheets, a few more times that I can say, I’ve loved these days”

Another night sitting under the cold stars wishing for the heat of your hand in mine.
In my heart, it burns like a wildfire, raging to be heard, to be seen to be felt by you, at least acknowledged and given some life as it burns out all I have to give. I am no longer who I was.
The river has moved me and shaped me and taken what was given to it, cleansing, renewing and rebuilding all that remains. The waters run cold to the touch, but burn with their clarity.
The past is not an anchor that ties me
Yesterday isn’t a mistake that binds me
Tomorrow is unwritten, it is always a blank canvas
The story has changed and I hope you can see it
Tomorrow isn’t yesterday repeating and I hope we can share it.

Bittersweet

Tonight is another night that sleep is somewhere else. Sleep does not want to be found.

I have the words, but I can’t use them to tell you.

I have the feelings, but they are locked away because they will get in the way of what you want

It’s there, waiting for us to live anew, to shine a new light and awake to a new dawn

It’s there, waiting. Waiting for you, I am already there, waiting for you.

It would be unnecessary to wait forever for these open doors to finally close

The mistake is yours now.

Revelations

Not really a revelation.  I am not who I should be. I am not what I should be.

This will not last.

So it took too long to realize, too long to work out.

I lost you a long time ago.

I lost you more than once.

I can’t give words to how that feels.

So it’s too late. Too little. Too long gone.

This isn’t for you anymore. This isn’t for anyone.

It’s because it’s right.

Revelations. Laid down by the waters, given up to the currents.

The past is let go because it doesn’t determine my future

The lessons are learned, the present is moving forward

for the first time in a long time, moving towards something

Something different, something by necessity better than what came before

Something that should be shared

Something.

Waiting

Here I stand. Waiting on you.

I don’t hold on to much

Certainly not hope.

But it feels nice to dream from time to time

About tomorrow, about not being lonely

about not being broken.

I won’t be forever.

I can’t stand still forever……..

Fringe

Einai Kalytero Anthropo Apo Ton Patera Toy

Right now that isn’t much of a challenge, the bar is set too low for you.

That is changing, despite the murmurs in the background, the whispers in the ears.

Don’t give heed to what they say. Those voices can’t see what is come, can’t feel what is real

You will be greater by degrees, I have no illusion no matter how high I can go, you can go higher

Always remember these words, for when the times comes for you to say them.

broken

Was it lonely by my side?

All those years spent wishing for something to change

for something better

Broken. Together. For all that time

when it all comes together

Is it too late to see and believe

that we can be saved. For us.

Strange you never knew

Falling into the twilight, Orion rising in the purple glow

Defying gravity for a moment to escape the shadows

You walk blindly into the night

And I, I unwillingly walk towards the only remaining light

——— ———- ———-

Strange you never knew how much you inspire me

How much I want to be like you, to walk on your path

Strange to see it walking away after all this time

These two paths diverging, you to yours and I to mine

I can still feel you here, shadow beside me to listen, hear and confide in

I can still see you there, shadow growing longer, dimmer and stronger

Strange you never knew

————

Another sleepless night where my waking dreams color the shadows

So much moves in the corners, all of it becoming what you are, fading into you

I think it’s strange you never knew.

Hold my hand this one last time as I walk into the warming sunshine

Let me kiss you goodbye as the tapestry continues to unwind

We wrote our story, our family, our lives, so much in that fabric

Torn and tattered and blowing in the wind of tomorrow

You’re the one that I loved. The one that I felt by my side when I reached out and needed someone to hold

You’re the one that I let down so many times, when you reached out and I wasn’t there

So much time wasted, why are we wasting more still? Walking in place without actually going anywhere

The past, those were my mistakes that I caused or allowed to happen.

The present is yours now.  I am ready, even if there are too many people in front of your eyes to see.

Another sleepless night to ponder the mistakes of yesterday, and see the mistakes of today and tomorrow

Strange you never knew. How tonight they fade into you.

Starting Over

Starting over. For no one else but me.

Somewhere there is a road that wanders into the woods

With Frost covering the fallen leaves at the light of day

Somewhere there is a muse wandering that dark wood

waiting for the middle to become the beginning
